Inscribed Stele Base (BOĞAZKÖY 1)

The limestone block was found in 1907 during the construction of the excavation house along with a very similar another inscribed block (BOĞAZKÖY 2). The cavity on the top site indicates that it had served as a stele base. The short inscription on the front also indicates that the stele was dedicated by a palace official with the title "cup-bearer". Reading of his name remains uncertain. The original stele is on display in the Istanbul Ancient Orient Museum, and Boğazkale Museum has a replica.
