Funerary Stele

The basalt stele was brought to the Kahramanmaraş Museum in 2012 from Yörükselim district of the city, but no precise find context is recorded. It measures roughly 1 m in height, 0.5 m in width, and 10 cm in thickness. The relief shows a typical dining scene with a single male figure sitting in front of a small table with food on it. The person is holding a wheat stalk and a bunch of grapes in his left hand and a small cup in his right hand. His nose has been depicted larger than usual. On stylistic criteria, it may be dated to the mid-9th century BCE. The stele is in the inventory of the Kahramanmaraş Museum.
