Statue of a ruler

The basalt statue was found outside the southern wall of the Hilani building, reused in a Roman-era wall. It is about 80 cm in height. Of the missing head, only a piece of the beard falling on the chest is visible. There was a cuneiform inscription on the lower front of the garment and on the back, but it seems to have been deliberately effaced, and all that remains are a few characters. This is also the only monumental cuneiform inscription found in Karkamış. On stylistic grounds, a pre-Hittite date has been suggested (S. Aro). The statue is currently in the Anatolian Civilizations Museum in Ankara.
