Inscribed Fragment (ALEPPO 3) The inscribed basalt fragment was purchased in 1972 by the Syrian authorities in the region of Euphrates and there is no other information about its provenance. However, the stylistic clues suggest the piece to originate from Karkamış. The fragment is 0.56 m. high and 0.28 m wide. It bears parts of three lines of a Hieroglyphic Luwian incsription with an unclear content and roughly dated to the 8th century BCE. It is currently in the Aleppo Museum. |
