HOME - KARKAMIŞ TÜRKÇE Double bull base The basalt double-bull base was found in situ but in broken pieces in front of the entrance of the Storm-god temple and was put together by L. Woolley (see previous image). It is about 1.2 meters in height and 2.4 meters in length and very similar in style to the double bull base found on the east side of the great stairway. In their original condition, the bulls probably had inlaid eyes and perhaps also horns. It is possible that the bulls were the base of a statue, but the depression on its top is deeper than similar bases and may have also served as a basin. Stylistically, it has been dated to the 9th century BCE. The base is in the Anatolian Civilizations Museum in Ankara. |
