Portal lions

Two basalt portal lions were found in 1935 in Hama citadel during the Danish excavation in situ at the south and north wings of the east entrance of room F in Building I. They are carved as statues in front and as low reliefs at the back sides that face the doorway. The roughly 2-meter-long rectangular blocks were originally one piece but suffered heavy damage and were fragmented. They are about 0.90 m in height and 0.53 m in width. They are dated to around 900 BCE or a bit earlier.
