Yumurtalık

The basalt stele with a broken bottom has been found in 1994 in Yumurtalık town of Adana during an excavation for a building construction. Similar to others from the region (see Maraş, Karaburçlu, Örtülü, Söğütlü, Gözlühöyük) this is a funerary monument. At the top of the stele is a late style winged sun disk. Below the sun disk in a deeper niche, there is a large male figure and across him is a much smaller seated figure. The stele is 110 cm high, 51 cm wide and 20 cm thick. A date in the 9th century BCE has been suggested. It is currently in the Adana Museum.
