Stele fragment

The basalt stele fragment shows on the left a partially visible, seated, bearded male figure holding a cup in one hand and a cane in the other. In front of him is a young girl(?). Her shoulder is held by an arm that apparently belongs to a broken-off figure originally seated across. The fragment is about 24 cm high and 42 cm wide. It was reportedly acquired in Maraş in the 1880s by Col. Lundqvist, who was an attaché in the Russian consulate in Aleppo and subsequently transferred to Tbilisi, Georgia. It is currently in the Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia.
