Stele

The basalt stele was found in 1952 in Maraş and purchased by the Istanbul Archaeology Museum. It shows a relief of two female figures, perhaps a mother and her daughter. The mother is holding a spindle(?) in her left hand. It is about 61 cm high, 39 cm wide and 12 cm thick. Stylistically it may be dated roughly to the 9th century BCE. Currently on display in the Istanbul Archaeology Museum.
